Carefully consider the choices of bedding when planning for your baby’s nursery. You can nurture your baby’s development within a beautiful, cheerful environment while also keeping baby comfortable through many options available. When shopping for your nursery decor, you will discover many different styles of baby furniture and crib bedding.

Depending on your budget, you may decorate and furnish your nursery from either high-end department stores or low-cost retailers. Hand-me-down or gifted furniture is great, but you will have to put some effort into making sure the items meet safety regulations and haven’t been part of a recall.

You will need to try out the furniture to make sure the sides of the crib slide down easily and smoothly. A noisy side latch will wake up the sleeping child who has been made to sleep after an ordeal. When picking out a crib, you want to make sure that it is high enough that you won’t have to bend far down to pick up your baby.

If it is the right crib, you may only need one crib even if having more than one baby! Multiple babies are comforted by having siblings nearby especially at night. You will know that it is time to buy another crib when the babies start to move around and interfere with each other’s sleep.

After finding and buying the proper furniture, parents should buy baby bedding. An easy way to save yourself time and alleviate frustration is to use waterproof mattress pads, since all babies have accidents, and you want to expedite matters as much as possible when you are up in the wee hours of the morning. Look beyond solid colors when choosing your baby bedding.  Not only will this brighten up the nursery, but it will also offer your baby areas of visual interest and stimulation. Selection need not be worried about as there are many patterns and colour schemes available to choose. Organic, or “green”, baby bedding is also available, but it can be much more expensive than a regular nursery crib set.

Your baby’s skin is delicate so it is important to wash your crib sheets in baby-safe detergent before you but them on the crib. Cover your new baby with just a sheet in warmer weather.  If the weather is colder, you may add a light blanket.
